One more competition day of Biathlon World Cup Final in Khanty-MAnsiysk has started with women pursuit. 60 best biathletes participated in 10 km race with 4 shootings.

Kaisa Makarainen of Finland was wearing bib #1. Just three seconds back started Gabriela Soukalova of Czech Republic. Marte Olsbu of Norway started third, 5 seconds back the leader.

All three leaders started first shooting together. Marte Olsbu shot clean while Kaisa and Gabriela had one missed target each.

After second prone shooting the leader has changed. Olsbu missed while Dorothea Wierer of Italy wearing bib #5 shot clean again. Still Makarainen, Soukalova and Olsbu were very close to the new leader.

A group of 6 athletes came almost simultaneously to the third shooting. Still only Soukalova and Marie Dorin-Habert of France shot clean. This duet went on the track 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the leading group.

The last shooting made the situation even more dramatic. Both Soukalova and Dorin-Habert missed one target while all their runner-ups shot clean. As a result, 6 athletes went on the last leg of the distance within 5 seconds.

In this battle Makarainen left no chances to her rivals. On the last downhill Dorin-Habert beat other athletes of the leading group winning silver in the race. Wierer finished third. Gabriela Soukalova who finished 4th won small Crystal Globe in pursuit and also the big Crystal Globe.

Men pursuit starts on March 19 at 6:50 p.m. (local time). Live broadcast of the race will be shown on “Ugra”, Match-TV” and “Eurosport-1” channels.
