History

The Centre started functioning from 1960. At that time there were built wooden schools and a taget shooting. And until 1996 any changes of the complex were carried out.

In 1995 the meeting of the heads of the International Biathlon Union and the Russian Biathlon Union with the ex-governor of Khanty-Mansiysk Alexander Filippenko was held, and it outlined the main stages in the development of biathlon in the area. In June 1996 the construction of the Nordic Ski Center began.

Only in 2000 it was over.Life seethed at the biathlon center. In 1997 there was held the first international biathlon competition “Cup of Ugra”.

In 2000 – on the plасе of a wooden school were build sports stadium, firing line, stands, ski-roller track, bridges, buildings, sports club and a new sports school. Also that year the stadium was licensed to the ”A” level by the International Biathlon Union, which gives the right to host the most prestigious events of the Biathlon – the World Championships of adult athletes. From 2000 traditionally the final stages of the World Cup are held here.

And 2003 was marked by holding the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk. It was for the first time That this sport event had been held not only in Khanty-Mansiysk, but in the whole Russia.

In 2009 a new reconstruction of the Centre included the installation of a new platform, the reconstruction of the old commentator booths, moving the start line.

In 2010, The Nordic Ski center takes name of the first governor of Khanty – Mansiysk, Alexander Filippenko.

In 2011, a winter sports center again takes the Biathlon World Championships, and the entire Olympic cycle 2010-2013 here are the final stages of the World Cup.
