Races of World Cup 9 in Khanty-Mansiysk started today with women sprint. Despite of one missed target Kaisa Makarainen of Finland won gold. This is her second victory in the capital of Ugra in this discipline in succession.
The majority of top athletes have started the race in the first group. Kaisa Makarainen had bib number 17. Shooting clean on the first range, she missed one target in standing. But her speed on the track was perfect and this made possible for Kaisa to chase other athletes with clean shooting. The result of Makarainen is 20 minutes 42,3 seconds.
Silver of the race and small Crystal Globe in sprint were won by Gabriela Soukalova of Czech Republic. She was not feeling well before the competitions in Khanty-Mansiysk shill it didn’t prevent her from having a good race. Gabriela shot clean in both shootings and finished just 3,1 seconds back Kaisa. Besides, Soukalova had a small accident with Svetlana Sleptsova on her was from the second shooting and thus missed some seconds. By the way, Sleptsova finished 67th.
The bronze of the race was won by Marte Olsbu of Norway. She made the gold medal with Norway relay at World Championships in Oslo, the first victory in her career and also demonstrated clean shooting and perfect speed today. Marte finished just 1,7 sec back Gabriela Soukalova.
In addition to winning small Crystal Globe in relay Gabriela Soukalova increased her chances of winning the Total Score. Her main rival is Marie Dorin-Habert of France. Today Marie was 10th in sprint.
Among Russian athletes the best result was shown by Tatiana Akimova who finished 12th.
